Sur les Quais de la Seine

Picture
sur les quais images
I arrived in Paris as a 20 year old spending 3 months hitchhiking around Europe. I immediately fell in love with the city, the Seine, and the quais that border the river.

Less than two years later I returned to Paris in the dead of winter to live and learn French. It was at this time that I grew to really understand the joy and comfort the quais bring. Frequently I walked alone, sometimes happy, sometimes depressed. Sometimes I just sat and watched the river. Other times I walked with friends. We would take some baguettes, cheese, and cheap red wine, and celebrate the end of day along the river. And there is no better walk to take with your loved one.

When I took these photographs during recent visits, I felt like I was stepping back 50 years. These images show stories taking place on the quais and I feel like I had lived them all.

I fell in love in Paris that year with Jacqueline Renee Therese and now, a half century later, I look back at all the times we have returned to walk along the quais in Paris.
